Postmortem Thingy *spoilers ahead i guess*

Thought those who played my little doodad would like a peek into the creative process behind it. If not, oops. Hopefully you've played already! There's at least one whole twist to enjoy. Hurry, go play it now!

For inspiration, I got the broad idea from the (pretty stinky) modern FMV game called Dark Nights with Poe and Munro. The titular duo are radio hosts with supposed romantic chemistry who  encounter supernatural phenomena. It hit something that left me thinking about 90's X-files also-rans like So Weird and Baywatch Nights and I immediately knew what the genre for my game would be. I like a little cheese in my horror.

As for the story itself, I've always wanted to write a spoopy story about Brony tulpamancy gone awry ever since I heard about the practice. So Weird taught me what a tulpa was, after all. A part of me wishes I had followed through on the cheesy surreality of the pony tulpa concept but I didn't want to do a horror-comedy (though I did add a few jokes). Plus, I think Clark is the scariest thing in the story. A coward who would rather kill than face rejection.  Hopefully I murdered the right darlings.

The characters were discovered as I wrote. Making the skeptic surly and the believer wide-eyed  felt too obvious, so i just  switched them and it worked nicely. I had a little trouble tying Oswald's resolution to Arty's but I think it worked out okay? I focused on the characters being united in insecurity, just showing it in different ways.

As for storytelling, I struggled with the climax because supernatural stuff feels very made up and is a little too freeing. I dunno if the motivations/rules for Roman made enough sense or if anyone really even cares and ghosts can just be about vibes.  I plead vibes. I also tried being more ambitious with prose this time around and... I have no idea how I sound. I don't like writing a bunch of prose because I have zero ear for it. If it's bad don't tell me because I will never understand why.

All in all, I had fun and I hope you enjoyed me going out of my comfort zone!
